About the book
The pen and ink illustrations at the beginning and end are a fragment of a children’s book drawn in the summer of 1977. The book was never finished. Forty years later I have decided to complete the book with recent photos and drawings from the last 40 years and others created especially for the book. The photographs in the center of the book were taken through a reflective mirror at the New York Public Library exhibition Public Eye: 175 Years of Sharing Photography in 2015. The text and quotes were written and compiled in 2017. Just like the main character, this book doesn’t really know what it is. I am certain it is now not a children’s book—I think it never was
